Our Services
Sunday School begins at 9:15 AM. There is currently one adult class that meets: A mixed class of both men and women, currently being lead by deacon Bill Noble, is studying the book of Isaiah. This class meets in the education building next door to the church (across from the parking lot).
Sunday morning worship service begins at 10:30 AM. This is our main service in the life of our church. Service begins usually with a video selection of a worship song designed to draw our focus from ourselves and onto our gracious and loving God. Then we will normally open in prayer followed by song selections for congregational singing. These include both favorite hymns of the past and the best songs of the present. Following this, our offering is taken. This is for members of the church to give to the support of the work of the ministry of Tunkhannock Baptist Church and in no way are visitors expected to give. Please feel free to pass the plate! This is usually followed by a few more congregational songs.
Then our pastor normally gives some announcements and has an extended pastoral prayer where he prays for the church, the community, the country, and the world. The passage of Scripture that the pastor will be preaching from is often read at this point in the service (the Pastor reads and preaches from the English Standard Version). Then there is another worship DVD or someone in the church may play a musical selection to prepare us to hear the Word of God. The pastor then will preach between 30-45 minutes explaining what the Scriptures say and giving relevant application for your life. This is concluded with a hymn. On the first Sunday of every month following this time, the Lord’s Supper is celebrated where we reflect on the life and death of the Lord Jesus Christ. This is a time designed solely for believers in Jesus Christ. Following the observance of the Lord’s Supper, the Deacon’s benevolent offering is taken up to meet the needs of church members and people in our community.
No one will single you out. No one will expect you to say or do anything in the service. No one will expect you to dress a particular way. We are just thankful to have you join us!
Sunday evening worship begins at 6:00 PM. Refreshments are provided before and during the service including coffee, water, soda, snacks, baked goods, etc. We begin by singing a song together, praying, and then spend an extended period of time in serious Bible study. This time is much more interactive with group discussion over various items.
